Alex Smithwas said to have been progressing nicely from his week 10 concussion, but he has been unable pass all the necessary tests to play tonight against the Bears.
Colin Kaepernick will get the start, and while I think he has a place in this league, it’s not as a productive player against an elite defense. I expect the 49ers offense to be very “vanilla” this week, giving their Kaepernick one maybe two reads to make, and if nothing is there, abort the play. It won’t be pretty, but I think he is the best fantasy QB in this matchup, as he is less likely to make the big mistake. That being said, you’re not starting him unless you are incredibly desperate.
This news doesn’t do any favors for Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree owners, but Frank Gore owners figure to be unaffected. While there is the chance Kaepernick vultures a TD from Gore, his ability to run the ball should take some of the focus off of Gore. I had Gore ranked as a low end RB2 this week, and that doesn’t change with this news.
