Cedric Benson to start week one for Packers

Aug 29, 2012

Veteran tailback Cedric Benson will start week one against the 49ers, as the majority of the Green Bay backfield is currently injured. According to a report on CBSsports.com, Benson has been confirmed as the week one starter by fellow tailback Alex Green.

“Cedric is leading off,” Green told reporters. “He’s doing a great job of picking things up. He’s a very smart player, obviously a good running back. We’re just working with what we got right now and making the best of it.”

The former Texas star rushed for 38 yards on six carries against his former team last Thursday, as has earned praise from his new coaching staff regarding his work ethic and effort.

For those yet to draft, we recommend using a middle round pick on Benson. The Packers will certainly continue to be a pass heavy offense, however, Benson could be in line for work as a goal line back.
