Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that second year running back Daniel Thomas is not guaranteed the number two running back position behind Reggie Bush, as rookie Lamar Miller and veteran Steve Slaton will push Thomas this training camp for regular season carries.
“Daniel Thomas enters as the No. 2 running back behind Reggie Bush, but if he doesn’t improve his 3.5 per carry average and yards after contact (fifth-worst among NFL backs), that will open a window for rookie Lamar Miller, who’s more elusive than Thomas, and perhaps Steve Slaton, who this staff really likes” reports Jackson. “Thomas was an awful 3 for 13 in short yardage run conversions last year.”
Thomas rushed for 581 yards on 165 attempts in 2012, but failed to score a rushing touchdown. A new regime in Miami could be bad news for Thomas and fantasy owners that might draft him too high in 2012. His ADP on mockdraftcentral.com is 105 overall, a few slots ahead other viable backs like Tim Hightower, Felix Jones and Mikel Leshoure.
