Fred Jackson was a fantasy football beast in 2011 before suffering a season ending broken leg. Despite his solid play, he may not have near the same value this season as the Bills will likely use CJ Spiller more often in 2012.
This fact didn’t stop Jackson from announcing that he is a top 5 running back. As reported by Michael David Smith of PFT.com, Jackson said on ESPN that his versatility in both the passing and running game makes him more valuable.
“I would definitely put myself in the top five running backs in this league,” Jackson said. “There are a lot of great ones out there, but I feel like I can do everything: I can run, I can catch, I can block, stay out there on third downs. I think if you can do that you can definitely consider yourself one of the best backs in the league. The number one thing I’ve got to do is go out and prove it, and I’m looking forward to that challenge this year.”
From a fantasy perspective, the fact that Spiller will reportedly be more active in the offense has reduced Jackson to a high-end number 3 running back.
