Jason Witten will likely miss week one against the Giants due to his lacerated spleen reports Adam Schefter of ESPN. Although Witten has avoided surgery for the injury, it is looking like the former Tennessee star will make his season debut week 2 against Seattle.
Fantasy owners that have not drafted as of the date of publication of this article may want to avoid drafting Witten without a viable number two tight end. When healthy, Witten is a beast and a no-brainer top 5 tight end. An injury like a lacerated spleen is not something to be taken lightly, and could linger past even week two.
We currently have Witten ranked as the fifth wide receiver overall, ahead of Vernon Davis, Jermichael Finley and Fred Davis on our 2012 Fantasy Football top 200 rankings. Due to the spleen injury, he will likely fall behind those three other options when we update our rankings next week.
