The Eagles head to the west coast without their most consistent receiving threat due to a hip pointer, an injury that could severely limit the upside of all members involved in the Eagles pass game. Jeremy Maclin aggravated the injury during last weeks win against the Ravens, and the team has elected to give him some rest instead of pushing him early in the season.
If I am a DeSean Jackson owner, this is awful news. With unproven wideouts like Jason Avant and Damaris Johnson filling in for Maclin, the Cardinals are going to look to lock up Jackson. They’ve got the player to do it in Patrick Peterson, who has a nice combination of size and speed to crowd Jackson. Peterson is 3 inches taller and nearly 50 pounds heavier, and with Jackson seemingly allergic to contact, I’ve got him ranked outside my top 20 wide receivers. The one redeeming quality for Jackson is the fact thatMike Vick is fourth in the league in pass attempts, but that’s simply not enough to have me sold on the Eagles pass game this week.
Maybe, just maybe, the Eagles will use their stud running back to his full potential this week. LeSean McCoy is an elite running back, and the Eagles are simply the better team in this game. Andy Reid has always been a pass first coach, but this could be a rare 20+ carry day for McCoy. I’ve got only Ray Rice ranked ahead of him this week, as he should make fantasy owners very happy this week.
