LeGarrette Blount made a name for himself in 2009 as a member of the Oregon Ducks when he punched Boise State defensive end Byron Hout after a 19-8 loss to begin the season. Blount was subsequently suspended for the remainder of the season by Oregon Coach Chip Kelly.
The Madison, Florida native found a home with the Tampa Bay Bucs after failing to get drafted in the 2010 NFL draft.
Blount rushed for an impressive 1007 yards on just 201 carries for the Bucs in 2010, but failed to produce similar numbers in his sophmore season, leading the organization to use a first round pick on Doug Martin in 2012.
After a strong opening pre-season game against the Dolphins, Blount made a bold statement to Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times. As reported on PFT.com, Blount stated: “We can definitely be the best duo in the NFL, with the schemes that we have, with the offensive line that we have, with the blocking and the confidence Doug Martin has in me and the confidence I have in him. It’s definitely going to be a really good fit. We have the potential to be the best backfield in the league.”
It remains to be seen if Martin and Blount will in fact be the top rushing tandem in the league, however, I believe Arian Foster and Ben Tate may earn that award.
Despite his somewhat bold statement, fantasy owners may want to use a late round pick on Blount as it appears that he and Martin will both be active the re-vamped Buccaneer offence.
