The NFL has officially told all 32 teams that the 2012 season will begin with replacement officials, as the league and the Referee’s Union continue their labor dispute.
As reported by Albert Breer of NFL.com, a memo was sent out by NFL executive vice president Ray Anderson on Wednesday notifying teams of the use of inexperienced, temporary officiating crews week one.
The Referee’s Union reportedly wants to continue with a pension-stlye retirement program, while owners and the NFL want to provide a more common 401k type plan. As many in the workforce know all too well, pensions are becoming a thing of the past, and the NFL wants to follow suit with other major industries.
