Jaguars head coach Mike Mularkey announced Monday that Rashad Jennings will start at tailback for the Jaguars week one against Minnesota, while incumbant started Maurice Jones-Drew continues his holdout for a new contract.
Jennings rushed for 459 yards on just 84 carries as a change of pace back last season, while scoring four touchdowns in 13 games. The former Liberty star has averaged an impressive 5.4 yards per carry in limited action in his 4 year career, and enters the 2012 season as a first-time starter.
Jones-Drew owners should not panic yet, as this could be just a ploy by Shad Khan and Mularkey to force jones back into camp. However, the bad blood between Khan and Jones could result in a late mid-season trade, similar to what Carson Palmer experienced last season.
