Waiver Wire: Week Nine

Nov 1, 2012

Get the top five pick-ups of the week.

—- D it up —-

Miami Defense:

First time this year I’ve had a defense in the mix but Miami D is worthy of it after throttling the Jets last week. They are at Indy next week then host Tennessee so this may be a good wave to ride for a bit.

—- The ‘Yes, there is a Jaguars receiver on here’ pick-up —-

Cecil Shorts – WR Jaguars:

The first question you need to ask yourself is, “Am I really going to pick up a Jaguars receiver?” – If that answer is a yes, then snatch Shorts now. Shorts reeled in eight passes for 116 yards on 12 targets showing he is the man for Blaine Gabbert. He has a solid last two weeks with 195 yards and a touchdown so if your wr’s are struggling, why not take a stab. Detroit at home this week.

—- The ‘Can you grab the nurse for me’ pick-up —-

Jonathan Dwyer – RB Steelers:

The rotating hospital in Pittsburgh is still up in the air for this weekend but when it all shakes out Jonathan Dwyer may be the guy still standing. With Mendenhall and Redman both struggling to participate in practice this week Dwyer is poised to get the start, that is, if he can make it to practice this week. Not a great situation having to go on the road to Metlife stadium but a situation that needs to be paid attention to. At Giants this week.

—- The ‘holy-bye week batman’ pick-up —-

Daniel Thomas – RB Dolphins:

The Dolphins go on bye and then they come back with a rotating backfield??? Thomas had one more carry than Reggie Bush on the day, but Bush had 17 more yards. Thomas did however get into the endzone while Bush did not, marking the second straight week of that occurrence.  This is not encouraging for Bush owners but we will see soon enough as they go to Indy this week.

—- The ‘don’t give up on me’ pick-up —-

Joel Dreessen – TE Broncos:

Yes, he didn’t catch a pass last week, yes he was only thrown the ball twice and yes he was asked to block all game. There was a game plan in place, it worked, and his fantasy value was a victim of the circumstance. They go on to Cincy where all of that is going to change with the Bengals giving up the 6th most fantasy points to TE’s this year. At Cincinnati next week.

Last Week Results:

Rashad Jennings – 59 yards on the ground with six receptions for 56 yards

Josh Gordon – Three receptions for 46 yards

Jeremy Kerley – Five receptions for 43 yards

LaRod Stephens-Howling – Eight carries for six yards

Titus Young – Nine catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns
